How to Make Bath Salts & Why You Should
by Suzanne M. Harvey

It is not secret I am a huge fan of taking a bath. It is my number one go to when I need to relax and unwind from a crazy day (or week). Self care has become even more important in recent days. And a simple recipe for the perfect bath is just what the doctor ordered.
How to Make Your Own Bath Salts
What you need:
- Glass container with lid
2. Quality Epsom Salt (purchase at your local health food store, grocer or a trusted online source)
3. Baking Soda
4. Your favorite Essential Oil (my favs – lavender, citrus or chamomile)
*Some recipes call for additional oils such as jojoba or coconut. I skip these because it can create issues with your plumbing if used often.

Mix 2 cups of salt with 1 cup of baking soda in your glass container. Then add 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil. I like to create a custom scent by using 2 or 3 different oils. My current favorite is lavender & lemon.
To use, simply run a hot bath and pour in 1/4c to 1c of your salt mix, hop in, relax and enjoy.
Why You Should be Taking Salt Baths
For years people have enjoyed the benefits of salt in their baths. While the scientific research is mixed, many integrative medicine practitioners continue to recommend the use of epsom salt in baths. Here are some of the great benefits of adding this to your bathing routine.
#1 – Pain Relief
In just a 15 minute soak, you can see reduced soreness & stiffness in muscles. A great option after a tough work out.
#2 – Detox
Soaking in a salt bath can reduce bloating and help your body eliminate toxins.
#3 – Relax & Sleep Better
Who doesn’t need to relax these days??!! And improved sleep is something we all can use.
#4 – Relieve Dry Skin
Winter dry skin gets extra hydration from a salt bath. Skip a salt bath if you have extremely irritated skin or an open wound.
#5 – Mood Booster – YES PLEASE!!!

I have loved adding this step to my relaxation routine. It’s simple & effective for helping you cope with the stresses of the day. Grab these staples from the pantry, do a little mixing and voila! Relax & enjoy.
