Do you love that summer sun kissed look? There is something about skin that has that summer glow. We look thinner, healthier and happier with a little sunshine on our skin. But no one wants the skin damage that comes along with extended sun exposure. Plus, the possibility of getting burnt and all the signs of aging. What is a girl to do? Hello sunless tanner. However, applying sunless tanner can be difficult. No one wants to get orange or streaky, looking tans. Ready to get your perfect summer glow? I’ve got five tips to help you get that summer glow you’ve always wanted.

Tip #1 – Exfoliate

The first step to the perfect tan is to exfoliate. Our skin gets rough and dry. A little exfoliation brings those young, beautiful skin cells to the top. And they will beautifully soak up the sunless tanner. Anywhere sunless tanner will be applied needs to be exfoliated. This will ensure a smooth finish – every time.

Tip #2 – Hydrate

What’s next. Hydrate your skin. There are two ways to hydrate – inside and outside. First you need to drink lots of water. This is good for your skin all the time. Then grab your favorite hydration serum product (like Active Hydration Serum) to prep your skin. You can use a hydration serum for your face and then use a body lotion with hydration serum in it (check out Active Hydration Body Replenish) to hydrate head to toe.

Tip #3 – Apply Sunless Tanner

Now you’re ready to apply your sunless tanner. I prefer a foam type (Essentials Foaming Sunless Tan is my go-to). Use 3-5 pumps and apply to one area at a time. I start move from left to right and legs then arms, decolletage, neck, face and finally hands. Using an application mitt (this one is a favorite) will help get even application and then the residual will take care of your hands without too much product. Once finished, wait 10 to 15 minutes before getting dressed.

Tip #4 – Moisturize

Your next step is to moisturize. The best thing that you can do to extend your sunless tan is to moisturize your skin. Once the tanner is dry and starting to develop, go ahead and apply a moisturizer. Moisturizer locks in the extra hydration you added in the beginning. Plus, it will help the color last longer and your skin will glow.

Tip #5 – Add Sunscreen

Now you have a gorgeous summer glow, but you still need sunscreen to protect your skin. Make sure you apply before you go outside again, head to toe, using a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF. Now you’re ready to glow.

Bonus Tip – Tinted Moisturizer with SPF

A tinted moisturizer with the SPF built in, does double duty. And if you want a bit darker color on your face, you can make adjustments using a tinted moisturizer in a shade or two darker than your everyday shade.

Summer has arrived and we are all ready to get outside and get the sun kissed look. Now you have tips to help get your perfect summer glow without sun damage, sun burns or aging your skin. Hello gorgeous!
