5 Steps to Schedule Your Self Care This Week

by Suzanne M. Harvey

We all know we should be taking care of ourselves. But often the thing that gets in our way is time. Our schedules are jam packed with all kinds of good things and necessary activities and there doesn’t seem to be time left for us to plug in any selfcare. So what can we do? Since we know if it gets on the calendar it gets done (most of the time), it’s time we start scheduling some selfcare and putting it on the calendar. Try these 5 steps to schedule your selfcare this week.

#1 – Pick 1 Selfcare Activity

We can’t go from 0 to 1000 in a split second or we burn out. Simply pick one activity for selfcare this week. Keep it simple. Maybe an appointment for a manicure or coffee date with a friend. Pick only one thing (even though once you start it will be easy to try to pick more).

#2 – Decide How Much Time You Need

Once you select your activity for the week, figure out how much time you will need. Make sure to include the time for the activity, as well as time for set up or to get to a place. I suggest finding a selfcare activity that is no more than 1-2 hours to begin with (or less if you are really crunched for time this week). We are going for progress here so let’s set ourselves up for success.

#3 – Review Your Calendar & Schedule It

Way to go. You have an activity and you know how much time you need to complete. Now pull out your calendar and look for a time slot to put this activity in. You may have to do some digging and detective work to find the time, but you can do it! Once you locate a time, get the activity in your calendar and block off the time.

#4 – Say NO to Something

I know some of you are saying, “I really don’t have time, especially this week”. I get it but we know this is a priority. Here’s a bit of tough love. Go back to the calendar and find something that can be moved to another week or removed from the calendar altogether. Here is your chance to practice saying no. It won’t hurt, I promise. Take a deep breath and send that text to reschedule or cancel.

#5 – Find a Selfcare Sister

Every goal we have is easier to achieve with a partner. When we are committed to each other and to our goals we can keep it going and cheer each other on. Time to find a friend or family member that needs to get her own selfcare in. Partner up and do it together. We are always better together!

How are you feeling? Are you excited or terrified? Either one is ok right now. Take one step today to move you forward on your selfcare journey. Every step counts – even the baby ones. Get started with these 5 steps to schedule your selfcare this week. You will be so glad you did.

Cheering you on!
